Sunrise Summit

Postby hunterg10166 » Fri Jul 11, 2014 6:18 am

I am getting ready to attempt Half Dome for the first time next week, and really want to start early, and summit before sunrise, so that I can watch the sunrise. With that said, is the trail marked well enough to hike it at night? Are there any added dangers to hiking it at night? So excited!!

Thank you for your help

Many people hike the freeway of a trail at night. You'll want a light to avoid stepping on the big bugs and mice.

Cool, thanks for the info. I do have a light. What is the "freeway" trail you speak of?

Thousands of people hike that well maintained, wide trail each month during summer. Probably not going to be much of a wilderness experience. compared to trails that I prefer to hike, the Half Dome trail has more in common with a freeway.
