Conditions - Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne

Postby clkoltunov12 » Tue Jun 14, 2016 2:39 pm

I'm taking a 16-year old on the Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne next week - starting at White Wolf and ending at Tuolomne Meadows. Can anyone give me some idea of the trail conditions? Any difficult water crossings? Expected temps in Pate Valley?

That should be a good trip to go on. It might be wet, but there won't be any snow. Based on point forecasts for Pate Valley through next Tuesday, daytime temperatures will be in the 80s and nighttime in the low 50s. Register Creek should be your only possible slightly problematic crossing, and the Tuolumne might have a little high water flooding, but I wouldn't even hesitate to stay with your plans in spite of either.

The gate down to White Wolf was closed as of last Sunday, but people were parked off to the side of Tioga Rd, or alternately, you could come in from the Lukens Lake trailhead. When you pick up your permit, ask the ranger how you should handle it.

Camping in Pate Valley is fantastic, but there is a lot of bear activity, so keep that in mind.
