I've been in that area several times around the 1st week of August in various snowfall years. Very pleasant, not many bugs.

Good to know, thanks Dave. My fear is that if we go too late we'll miss the main burst of higher-elevation wildflowers blooming, but I guess the two to some extent go hand-in-hand.

Yes they do. Early season=bugs and flowers. Late season has fewer of each
