Cool Yosemite Hikes?

Postby Waliarake » Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:43 am

Heading up to Mammoth tonight - likely going to ski saturday and get a hike in Sunday. Anyone have any recommendations on a good, less crowded 4 - 5 hour hike with views, etc.? I've never been up there but hear the more popular ones get crowds and some have parking lots on top, etc....

You're on the wrong side of the mountains. From Mammoth you can try some of the East Side hikes up to Shadow Lake or the River trail. But there's still a ton of snow above 9,000 feet. Tioga Pass is closed to parking--its only open to through traffic.

You'll be driving all the way over the pass - 2-3 hours in traffic - to get to a parking lot. there's a ton of snow on Tioga Pass and they are only letting traffic pass through without stopping, for now.

Check in at the visitor center in Mammoth and get some ideas of hikes without snow in the Mammoth area. There will be a few, but a lot are under snow still. Campgrounds in the lakes are all shut and roads closed still. Good luck.
