When does it get dark in the valley

Postby samanan » Mon Apr 27, 2009 11:09 am

Was trying to figure out when I need to be at Tunnel view for sunset. Saw that sunset in late May is at approx. 7 pm. However, since the valley is surrounded by mountains, I suspect that it might get darker in the valley earlier.

Any thoughts/ideas about when I should be at Tunnel view or somewhere else in the valley for sunset.

Sunset is around 8:10pm at the end of May.
If you are going to Tunnel View they "improved" it so that the area
is larger and the views are more wide open.
i.e. there is more area for more people to setup their gear
I'd suggest just getting there an hour ahead of time...

Depending on the sky on the day you are there you could spend hours at Tunnel View anytime after 2 o'clock and get good picts. Even though the valley floor is in shade starting around 4 pm the sun shines straight into the valley from the west through the Merced River Canyon. The Merced River runs almost true East West in that area. Post your photos when you're done.
