Sunrise Lakes

Postby goingyard » Fri May 15, 2009 11:22 am

I am heading to Sunrise Lakes the end of May and the first part of June for 5 days. I know that they are plowing Tioga Pass Road as we speek and it is not know if it will be open by Memorial day weekend. I was wanting to get a feel if anyone knows how much snow is still up in that area? I was going to take the Tenaya Lake trail if I can get to it. I would love to get some current info on the conditions up there currently.

Here's some recent photos taken from the Olmsted Point area, near Tenaya Lake. It shows patchy snow, it seems:

At Tioga Pass, there's plenty of snow, as shown by the webcam:

On May 10th there was up to probably 5ft. of snow from Clouds Rest to Sunrise.
(btw.. the Tioga webcam along with the Sentinel one has been broken
for some time...)

Tenaya Lake was probably 3/4 frozen over on May 11th.
Maybe things will clear up a bit by Mem. Day but I would expect ALOT of
snow still. Since up to Sunrise is north facing I would expect some
fun conditions getting to the Lakes on Mem. Day.
We do have a heat wave blasting thru so maybe alot of the snow will
melt quickly tho.

Here's a shot I took on May 10th from atop Clouds looking toward Tenaya.
