Roosevelt and Muir Historical Marker

Does anyone know who created the sign marking where Muir and Roosevelt spent their last night camping in the valley? When did it go up? And who maintains it today?

Yes, that one. The web site says it was put in by the National Park Service, but not when or why? Any thoughts?

The site is only approximate--it's not known exactly where they camped.
Why was it put up? Because it marked an historical event.
As for when the sign was erected, it was several years later, which is usual when marking historical places.
For details on the trip see Johnston's The Yosemite Grant book
