There are defunct silver mines on Mono Pass and in Gaylor Lakes basin. Don't think they ever found anything despite all the digging tho.

Gold mines, not so much... I know of a couple locations of modern gold mines in Jamestown area, but I think they will not let you in.

At Mono Pass, and just outside the park at TIoga Pass. See this book for more info:

Ghost Mines of Yosemite (1958) by Douglass Hubbard http://www.yosemite.ca.us/library/ghost_mines/

This book is still in print, BTW. Usually available in Yosemite stores and gift shops.
