Yes. At the Cross-country ski center at the Badger Pass Ski Area. They rent cross-country skis and snowshoes.

Did you rent the snowshoes yet? Any good web site which offers trails for snow shoeing in Yosemite?

trails.com has a good list. Search for Northern California/ Yosemite and snowshoeing since the site also has hiking and other trail info.

Here's two snowshoe books for California (Tahoe and Yosemite) by Michael C. White:

Snowshoe Trails of Tahoe (1999) by Michael C. White

Anyone know if you can rent them in the afternoon at Badger , say right at closing, then return them the next afternoon and pay for one day only?

Not right now. Badger closed quite some time ago.

Thanks. I meant, in general, when it is open, if this scenario is something anyone has done or has knowledge of.

My hiking group usually rents from Herb Bauer (local outfitter in Fresno) or REI (also in Fresno) as both will do that sort of thing. I didn't see anything in the rental hut at Badger that indicated they would.

Thanks. This is for next winter. I'll check with my local REI. Do you happen to know the fee?

Somewhere in the range of 12-15 bucks a day, I think. REI won't ask for a deposit if you're a member.

We've got our reservations for December right before Christmas. Hoping for enough snow so we can do some snow shoeing. We are going for 5 days, so renting them from REI at those prices doesn't make sense. I'm going to have to find a lower priced alternative. I know that Badger Pass rents them, but the 8 or 8:30-4:00pm time frame is limiting.

I will report back here when I figure out a solution to being able to get them for our needs.

We ended up buying some snowshoes on Ebay. They worked great. Both were brand new, I got mine for $31 plus shipping and my GFs were about $50 and hers came with poles.
