Grand bus tour

Postby virgojmk » Tue May 31, 2011 8:00 pm

Hi folks, we are going to be taking the grand tour on a bus this Saturday June 4th, we will be driving down and staying in Oakhurst, I have a couple questions...they are..........

--how long of a drive is it from Oakhurst to the south entrance? AND how much longer from the south entrance to the Yosemite Lodge(where the bus leaves from)
-- is it a twisty drive, should we take Dramamine?

Any tips/advice are appreciated..............thanks

About a half hour.

It's about an hour from the South Entrance (Wawona area) to Yosemite Valley/Lodge. It's a twisty road, but the speed limit is 35mph and it's better in a bus than car. My wife has never gotten sick, and she gets car sick.

Note: this only applies if your driver obeys the speed limit. Over 35mph, yeah, you'll get car sick if you're prone to that sort of thing.

We have family members who get queasy on that road. Good luck!

Since you'll be driving by Mariposa Grove and past the turnoff to Glacier Point, I suggest you only take the Valley Floor tour and visit Mariposa Grove & Glacier Point on your own.

1/2 hour to go from Oakhurst to the South entrance.
On a Saturday add 15 minutes to 1/2 hour for the line of cars at the entrance station.
Then another 1 hour to get to the valley.
There are many turns in the road but you will not be going more than 35 mph.
The Valley Tour is an open air tram - dress warm.
The tour to Glacier Point / Mariposa Grove is a normal bus
