Camp 4 weekdays in summer

Postby climbSpain » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:28 pm

What are the chances of getting a campsite in Camp Four midweek in the summer? Is it even possible arriving first-thing in the morning? And any chance getting there in the afternoon?
Any advice about how to get a campsite in Yosemite without a reservation in summer would be appreciated.

I arrived around 1PM in the afternoon and lucked out and got a spot. The next morning there was a line of forty waiting for the Ranger opening at 8:30AM. The ones at te front of the line arrived before midnight...

I am planning on camping here on a Tuesday in late August and will probably be arriving around 5am-- I hope that's early enough!

Then bring a lawn chair, warm drinks, and a head lamp and enjoy the company while waiting. Good luck!

Hi, guys, I am planning to go to Yosemite in July and try to get a spot at Camp 4 Wednsday or Thursday. It's been almost a year since the last post in this topic. Anybody had any experience lately with getting a spot at Camp 4 midweek? In general, is it possible if I get there in the morning or even around noon? I understand it varies by the day but in general. Any info would be appreciated.

It boils down to two factors, how many people are leaving and how many people are in line ahead of you. If you want to get a spot you have to be near the head of the line and to do that you sometimes have to be there before midnight, but no guarantees, if no one is checking out that day they won't have spots. Weekends are generally worse than weekdays, weather plays a factor too.

There are some times when someone decides to leave early and you can happen upon a chance opening, so check as soon as you get to the park. Me and two friends scored three spots in one site that way.

I suggest you to go one day earlier and talk to local people and workers there they would give you the exact information for good campsite location
or you can also go 1 or 2 hours before opening, it will definitely help.
