Trails and streams conditions to Benson lake

Postby beng » Mon Jul 11, 2011 9:46 am

Greetings,

We have planned to hike to Benson lake from Twin Falls later this week and I'm looking for any trails and streams conditions report from someone who's just coming back from around there. Our current plan is to do the loop following the rancheria creek to Kerrick canyon to Benson lake coming back through Matterhorn canyon. But we may have to change our plan depending on snow conditions.

If you've been in that area recently, we'd really appreciate if you could share your perspective on current conditions.

TIA,
Ben

Hi Ben

Do you mean from Twin Lakes? You might check Bill's report on his hike up that way through Kerrick Canyon. I bet there is still plenty of snow at Seavey Pass...and the crossing at Rancheria Creek could be exciting as well....

Are you planning to do the whole loop, through Matterhorn Canyon, too? Because Mule and Burro Pass are certainly comnpletely under snow

Thanks Balzaccom. Yes I meant Twin Lakes. We had planned to do the loop, but given the conditions, I doubt we'll be able to pull it off. We most likely will go back the same way.

The toughest section you have to hike might be the stretch to Peeler Lake. That's a steep, cold, narrow canyon in there, and it may still be full of snow.

And the section from Rancheria Creek ( are you planning on crossing that?) to Seavey Pass could also be tough.
