travel questions about Yosemite

Postby pipesir » Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:10 pm

Hi,
I am from China and planing to visit Yosemite, Grand Teton and Yellow stone in late April.
I will be flying into SF,then rent a car(must within GPS) and drive to the east...I have some questions about it and would appreciate for any comments.
1. Is the time OK for travel these National parks?
2. I plan to visit every park for 1 or 2 days,so I guess I have no much time for hiking.just drive and stop for some scenes must be visited and take some photoes. Does it sound make sense?
3. I will fly to NY after trivel these great parks. Is there any airports near by Yellow Stone or Grand Teton? I don't want to drive back SF or drive to salt lake city.
4. would you pls give me some advice on the drive path whatever the path to the parks or the trace in the parks. some hotels? some senses I should to visit? ......

Thanks a lot!

1. Is the time OK for travel these National parks?
May or June is better (warmer).
In Yosemite, the Tioga Road (Highway 120 between Crane Flat and Tioga Pass in Yosemite) is still closed (snow). The Glacier Point Road is closed (snow). Yosemite Valley is open year-around otherwise.
Yellowstone opens in mid-April (after the roads are plowed free of snow).
Grand Teton is open year-around.

2. I plan to visit every park for 1 or 2 days,so I guess I have no much time for hiking.just drive and stop for some scenes must be visited and take some photoes. Does it sound make sense?
Yes, but you should walk around and see the waterfalls in Yosemite.

3. I will fly to NY after trivel these great parks. Is there any airports near by Yellow Stone or Grand Teton? I don't want to drive back SF or drive to salt lake city.
The closest airport to Yellowstone and Grand Teton is Jackson, Wyoming. Billings, Montana is the next closest (it's north of Yellowstone and farther from Grand Teton).

4. would you pls give me some advice on the drive path whatever the path to the parks or the trace in the parks. some hotels? some senses I should to visit? ......
Look at maps for Yosemite at
http://www.yosemite.ca.us/maps/
Also the National Park Service websites
http://www.nps.gov/yose/ Yosemite
http://www.nps.gov/yell/ Yellowstone
http://www.nps.gov/grte

For Yosemite, I recommend visiting the waterfalls in Yosemite Valley. Also the Giant Sequoia trees in Mariposa Grove.

For Yellowstone, most of the geysers are around Old Faithful geyser basin. I also recommend the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and Mammoth Hot Springs.
