Best ways to register?

Postby stripgaga » Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:04 pm

I plan on making reservations tomorrow for late june or early july, whenever I can in between the reservation window. The lady who I called suggested the best way to have more control over reservations is to do it online as the phones can get backed up with people calling, which I figured. I'm assuming people here have made reservations so can you guys tell me a little bit about your reservation experiences? I signed up on recreation.gov and created an account so I'm ready to go in that regard, but has anyone made reservations at 7am when they go on sale online as opposed to phone or vice versa? I understand the reservations sell out in minutes so is there anything I can do, besides be up and ready to go on the website before the reservation time, to ensure a reservation?

The first resource I would use is http://www.yosemitesites.com/ It's a free website that monitors the reservation data and shows in a nice bar graph what campsites in Yosemite are available fore each day. Very handy!

You have better luck if your first day is in the middle of the week (Mon.- Thurs.) rather than the weekend.

I've always reserved online and phone is probably slower. I would practice with the site first before the date the campsites open. Also refresh your browser and make sure your session doesn't expire right before 7am or whenever it does on sale. Good luck.

So it seems upper pines is the most popular area according to that website?
