backcountry camping between high camps

Postby adrenn » Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:31 am

Greetings from the Eastern seaboard,
Will be hiking in YNP and using some of the high sierra camps. we are a party of three looking for back country camping between Merced and Sunrise. Anybody have any suggestions? J

I'm assuming you are backpacking and not just day tripping between the camps. If so, the Echo Valley drainage is a nice place to stop. There are nice areas to setup camp and it's OFF any trail so cross-country skills and a topo map are nice to have. If you want to explore, there are moderate to strenuous day hiking to some of the granite peaks. There really isn't any lake close by for you to go other than further up the Echo or Cathedral drainage, which is already close to Sunrise.
