I personally consider all the trails in Yosemite to be spectacular.
You have to take the good with the bad.
I can take you on a Mono Meadow trip into Illouette Hole that will knock
your socks off scenery wise.

Anyway, to me Yosemite beauty and uniqueness is all due to 2 things.
Waterfalls and Granite Domes. Since it is not early in the year the
loop I suggested was all for seeing the "best" (IMO) of Yose.
Lyell is awesome as is Evelyn, Vogelsang, Hanging Basket... but to me..
those aren't so unique ... there are literally hundreds of those places in the Sierras. and even Lyell is somewhat boring until you get 8 miles down
canyon.
(that being said the wife and I are going thru Vog area next week...)
(Guess I have a passion for the place and love it all)
Anyway, enjoy

Vogelsang Lake, Evelyn Lake or Ireland lake for Photos

Postby adrianhoff » Sun Jun 29, 2008 12:36 pm

July 10-21 I’m doing a loop that starts LYV ... Merced Lake ... Vogelsang ... Tuolumne. I did a similar route last year. I stopped at the Vogelsang HS Camp, then hiked to Tuolumne via the Rafferty Creek trail. This year I’ll overnight somewhere before, and somewhere beyond the HS Camp (hiking out via the JMT). Before reading this post, I’d planned to hike past Evelyn Lake.

Isolation isn’t important to me. I don’t fish. My interest is photography.

Between Vogelsang Lake, Evelyn Lake and Ireland Lake, is one more photogenic than the other two? Is one uglier than the other two? Or are all three so spectacular that (judged on photo opportunities) it really doesn’t matter where I stop? Also, what about the small unnamed lake that’s just off-trail about 3/4 mile past Evelyn Lake?

Ok. So you are thinking of going out Lyell instead of Rafferty...
Vogelsang Lake and Pass is the most picturesque IMO.
Evelyn to me is by far the least... I've hiked by Ireland numerous times and
Evelyn only once... it was ... sorta nothing spectular ... (in comparison)
IMO Fletcher and Townsley are nicer...
I'd suggest you hike from Vog HSC past Fletcher and Townsley...
You can check out Hanging Basket if you like. From there xcountry
some more over to Ireland. Its pretty simple cross country and
alot of good photo ops. You should be able to see all of Ireland
if you hit it right. That route is the way I always go now.
(between the 11,100 and 11,400 "knobs" west of Ireland)
It's more elevation but I feel it's worth it...
