Mid-June snow at Sunrise this year?

Postby hiker97 » Mon May 17, 2010 9:33 pm

A couple of years ago, we did the Ten Lakes Trail in mid-June and encountered some isolated patches of snow but not much all in all. I wanted to ask people's opinion about what to expect at the Sunrise HSC and Sunrise Lakes area this year around June 18th. This would be in the 9300-9400' elevation range. Normally I wouldn't expect to see any by mid-June but I'm wondering what one might expect this year with the increased snow pack.

I'm headed up to Cathedral Lakes the following week and I'm expecting snow. Though I'd expect you'll find a path if you are sticking to the trails. Keep an eye out after the Tioga Road opens for reports, probably in a week or two.

I'll look forward to bill-e-g's trip report! I guess the main questions are (1) will we be able to easily make out the trail? and (2) are we in for a snow camping trip? Preparations are a bit different!

Normally you would see snow mid-June, but the past few years have been kind of dry. This is a more-normal (or slightly more than normal) snow year, so we'll have snow in the high country mid-June.
