It's not quite the freeway that JMT or HDT are, but yes, it's well defined. The hardest part is around the summit, where you just scramble over some rocks, but you just go up and over the edge and continue on the trail on the other side.

There's two trail junctions along the way between Clouds Rest and Tenaya Lake, both on the right. The first is a side trail that heads back to the JMT. Used by people who don't want to go up and over Clouds Rest and by mules. The second side trail heads to the JMT again, but via Sunrise Lakes High Sierra Camp (hence the mule use again).

Thank you, dan. One more thing for me. I have watched a video online of people doing this hike from Little Yosemite Valley being a little confused about where the actual summit is (in all fairness, there was a lot of snow when they were doing it). Now that there's no snow is it difficult to define where the actual summit is? Do I just look for the highest point? Is the summit clearly defined? Thanks.
