That's funny.

You have to take baby steps.
Get a tent with mostly mesh and preferably two doors.
Sleep in that w/her w/o the rain fly on.
Then open your door and leave it open.
Then open her door and leave it open.
Then say "honey, lookie... we don't even need the tent".

Good luck

(if she's a girlie girl though... just give up)

:)

(got my wife to go snowshoeing overnight this year... thought
that would never happen... so.. it's perhaps possible)

Other tact would be to just conveniently "forget" the tent poles.

It's all this huge mental block. People look at the hammock and say "I can't do that, I need a tent." I look at the hammock and say... it's nylon, and mesh, and rope. Like a tent. Just not on the ground, with the bugs, and the snakes, and the stickers, and the rocks, and the squirrels, and the runoff water...

I pitch a tarp and they say, "Oh, I need a tent." And I look at the tarp and say... it's nylon. Like a tent. I could put up a bug net under it, and it would be two layers of nylon and mesh. Like a tent.

the difference between a tarp and bugnet and a tent - the poles, the grommets, the grosgrain and the zippers = a lot of extra weight and a little easier setup. What people really want is what's familiar to them.

All you need to do is stay warm and dry.

I've stayed dryer under a tarp then others have in their tent.

Almost, the wife slept in the hammock downstairs and loved it.
Used it again and I'm mixed on it still.

Use your noggin and stay warm and dry.
Check this out:

First storm of the season last year at Vernon. Magical walk out the next day.

I say it all the time.

Now that is funny. However, I was thinking about getting a Nemo Morpho 2 Person

Perhaps a different tent.

I told you about them Clarks, they ain't like t'other hammocks... :)

I've watched people pitch tents with the fly upside down and wonder why the inside door isn't there. Any shelter can be pitched wrong and not work. But there are also a ton of tents that aren't worth carrying... I have a new habit of setting everything up in the yard first and spraying it with a hose. One guess why.

Another thing about tents ... they can get condensation inside if not ventilated properly. People want to button down and close up and stay warm - that's what the sleeping bag is for, let the tent ventilate and don't drown in moisture.

Almost there: I do the same thing. Ive learned the hard way to test everything at home before taking it out.

Bill, how late were you in Vernon? That is a great picture of the snow.

My wife fell in love with this tent:

Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2XT

Supposedly it's a three season.... but that's up to interpretation...
2 doors... both mesh... no crawling over me to get out during the night...

Of course they have to change design every 2 minutes so that
model got tweaked...

Anyway, good luck in your pursuit of the OUTdoors
:)
