Snow Creek > North Dome > Yosemite Falls in June?

Postby TrayS » Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:31 pm

We are contemplating a backpacking trip the first week of June. What is the likelihood that we would encounter snow on the trail (Snow Creek > North Dome > Yosemite) falls during that time?

Tough to say, but last year, I did the south rim the first week of June and there was substantial snow cover in forested areas. We definitely had to do some trail searching here and there. I imagine it will be similar, though the north rim does see more sun exposure.

Very good. At or near the rim and on the trails up and down, it will be clear, or near so.

Back in the trees and shade, you'll have lots of snow. Don't expect to make good time and have a GPS or good map with you.

That said, you should find clear areas for camping and it's a beautiful view of the valley.

It wasn't clear which TH you meant. Are you coming Mirror Lake > Snow Creek (ie., up from the valley) or from one of the Tioga Road THs? If frim Tioga road, then beware the plowing progress. Last year the road didn't open until June 5th I think and it was snowdrifts for the first mile or so. They had signs like this: http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php ... #msg-25947
and

I did Sunrise TH last year around the 18th and the roadside snow had abated but tehre was lots of snow in the interior. Totally lost the trail on the north facing / shaded slopes.
