2 night backpacking with access to toilet???

Postby laction » Sat Apr 09, 2011 9:17 am

Hi,

Does such a thing exist in Yosemite: a 2 night backpacking circuit with great views and that passes by flushing (or composting) toilet and running water (early July)?!?

It may be the condition for my girlfriend to try her first backpack trip (she does day-hike regularly)

Thanks

HSC

You won't find flush toilets, but you'll definitely find pit toilets at the HSCs. You'll also have access to basic camp supplies, food, etc. And lemonade sometimes. Some of the camps even have showers, but not Vogelsang.

Is there a particular area you have in mind? Most of the HSCs are located in prime spots, either on the way to great attractions or in the midst of them.

The shortest of those hikes would be the one to May Lake...less than two miles from the trailhead....and a great starting off place to climb MT. Hoffman.

Yep---there are toilets and running water there!

Someone else said that if you make reservations for dinner at a High Sierra Camp, you can use their shower. That's luxury!

I must second balzaccom's suggestion of May Lake. We went there last year as a stop on a multi-night backpacking trip and loved it. The hike is not too strenuous and there are amazing views on the way up, the backpacker's campground is lakefront and the lake is beautiful.

Day 1: started at Porcupine Flat and camped along Snow Creek
Day 2: back up across Tioga Rd to May Lake
Day 3: went down past Tenaya Lake up to Sunrise Lakes
Day 4: over Clouds Rest down to JMT junction (aka bear central!)
Day 5: out to Yosemite Valley via the Mist Trail (which was kinda sketchy with a pack)

Thanks KC. We are also planning the same thing, maybe on August this year.
