4 day 3 night backpacking

Postby ndj5 » Sun May 01, 2011 7:03 pm

My wife and I are looking for a four day three night backpacking trip in the backcountry of Yosemite. Any thoughts on a 20-30 mile trip, under 9600 feet (want fires), plenty of lakes/rivers, good views, and not many people? We're looking to go around 24-28 May. I appreciate any thoughts you have.

That's a tough one because that's near Memorial Day and lots of places are still going to be snow covered and water run off is going to be very high. Trails that are safely doable (maybe the rim trails, LYV, and stuff near Hetch Hetchy) during that time are ones that you're likely going to be sharing with other folks. Heck, you may even see me out there.

The above being said, a trip is what you make of it and there is a lot of space out there. If you don't mind snow, then you'll likely see a lot less folks too.
