LYV overnight temps in late June

Postby sstratt1 » Sun May 29, 2011 11:30 am

I'm planning a two-night stay in Little Yosemite Valley in June to hike Half Dome with my husband and our parents. We have all our permits and most of our gear ready, but we've had a hard time getting info on what to expect for temperatures overnight in LYV June 20-21. We've day-hiked Yosemite in June before but aren't sure how much cold weather gear we'll need for overnight.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'd expect lows in the high 30's to low 40s F at night in mid-June in LYV. Weird weather can occur--it could snow, although unlikely. I think some afternoon storms are more likely, especially if it's humid in the San Joaquin Valley.

Here's a climate chart: http://www.yosemite.ca.us/faq/1.html#climate LYV is slightly cooler as it's roughly 1000' feet higher.

That said, I should also say that just because it's warm (above freezing), doesn't mean all the snow is gone.

I'd go prepared for 20-30F. I backpack a lot and wouldn't go anywhere in the Sierra June - September without a 20F setup.
