Trip suggestions for early August

Postby tmrettig » Sun Jun 05, 2011 9:49 am

Hiya,

I'm looking for trip suggestions for August 1st through August 7th. I got permits from entering at Mirror Lake trailhead, exiting through LYV/Happy Isles. I was thinking about going to Tuolumne and somewhat following the High Sierra Camps Loop. Does anyone think this is a good choice or have any other suggestions of routes worth experiencing that week?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I so excited to get back to the Sierras and want to make the absolute best of my week!

Mirror Lake trail head and out LYV/Happy Isles? I assume you're planning to hike around Tenaya Canyon? I'd get a map and check things out. If you haven't done it yet, the path you're choosing would enable you to make a nice trip up to Cloud's Rest, definitely worth doing.

Your Mirror Lake trailhead is actually going to take you up a steep climb up the North side of the Valley, and deliver you to the area above Snow Creek Falls. From there your best bet to get over to Happy Isles is through Olmsted Point...but if you are feeling ambitious you could also go cross country up from Tenaya Lake to Cathedral Lakes, and then down...

So day one would be to Snow Creek well past the foot bridge--as far up the creek as you can get after that climb. Second day could take you across the Tioga Road to May Lake, or Polly Dome Lakes. (May Lake would let you climb Mt. Hoffman, which has one of the top views in the park) Third day would be an easy hike over to Sunrise. Fourth day takes you over Cloud's Rest and down into Merced Canyon. Day five gets you up and down Half Dome as a day hike, and day six takes you back into the valley.

Should be a great hike.
