My wife and I will be driving down from Seattle for a couple weeks in both Sequoia/KC and Yosemite in the latter half of July and could use some advice on planning my backcountry trip.
My reservations have me entering via the Yosemite Falls TH on July 24th and exiting at Happy Isles/Little Yosemite on the 31st.
Here is what we are considering:
Day 1: Yosemite Falls to North Dome (or close)
Day 2: North Dome to somewhere near the junction of the Snow Creek and Olmsted point trail
Day 3: Somewhere near the junction of the Snow Creek and Olmsted point trail to Sunrise Lakes
Day 4: Sunrise Lakes to Clouds Rest and then backtrack to camp somewhere near the junction to the NE of Clouds Rest
Day 5: Somewhere near the junction to the NE of Clouds Rest to Somewhere in Echo Valley, more towards Merced Lake
Day 6: Somewhere in Echo Valley, more towards Merced Lake to Little Yosemite
Day 7: Little Yosemite back to the car and explore the park via car for the rest of the day
or
Day 1: Yosemite Falls to North Dome (or close)
Day 2: North Dome to somewhere near the junction of the Snow Creek and Olmsted point trail
Day 3: Somewhere near the junction of the Snow Creek and Olmsted point trail to Sunrise Lakes
Day 4: Sunrise Lakes to Cathedral Lakes
Day 5: Cathedral Lakes back through Sunrise High Camp towards the northern side of Echo Valley
Day 6: Echo Valley to Moraine Dome
Day 7: Moraine Dome to Little Yosemite
Day 8: Little Yosemite to the car
We are pretty set on the first 3 days but from then don't really know what to do with the rest of the time we have to make the most of the trip back to the car. What do you all think of those 2 options or would you recommend something else to do after sunrise lakes? Anything you suggest would be very appreciated. Oh and just so you know, my wife and I are very experienced backpackers and are accustomed to doing week long trips, and try to keep the mileage to about 7-10 miles a day.
Thanks for your time!
