Help with wilderness pass!!

Postby DouglyStyles » Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:13 am

So here is the story. Me and my girlfriend are doing a 4 day/3 night backpacking trip aug 17-20. The trip we planned was a little more then 30 miles: Start at Tuolumne -> Glen Aulin -> Grand Canyon of Tuolumne -> Pate Valley->Ending at White Wolf, where we would catch a shuttle back to our car. We had it all planned and when i applied for the wilderness pass.

I applied for 3 different options:
1) "glen aulin ->waterwheel falls" (End: white wolf)
2) "gel aulin" (End: white wolf)
3) "white wolf" (reverse the trip; End: Tuolumne)

I looked at the availability, and i saw that glen aulin was not available on the 17th (thought i would try it anyway haha), but the glen aulin->waterwheel was available that date and we didnt get it (not sure why, as its still available as of today). We got the "white wolf" reverse route.

So i have two questions regarding this situation:
1) Any ideas on a different trail that we can start on (or get a wilderness pass for) so we can do it the original direction from Tuolumne Medows, following the same basic route?
2) Has anyone done this trec from white wolf? And if so, how is it? The reason i wanted to do it from Tuolumne was because of the 5000 ft elivation change. If you go from Tuolumne its a 5000 down climb on the second day (14 miles from glen aulin to pate valley). But if you go from white wolf, then the second day is a 5000 ft up climb...

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!

THANK YOU!

**UPDATE**
After reading another post, i think that doing WW to TM sounds like a good time! I guess at this point my main concern is the car situation. Ill post what i posted on the other thread:

Im wondering if there is still a hikers bus? Or if there are any suggestions for where to park our car (we are coming from San Diego, flying to SF and renting 1 car). We were thinking of parking in Yos Valley and taking a bus to WW, then taking a bus from TM to the valley when we get done. Is there a better way? Maybe park at WW and bus from TM to WW (we are not above hitching it either  ). We are trying to get to our car as early as possible on the 20th as we have reservations in Sonoma that night :)
