Trail condition to Young Lakes

Postby mochipoo » Fri Jun 17, 2011 6:19 pm

I am planning a trip to Young Lakes on the 4th of july weekend. Does anyone know the current condition there now?
Is there is still a ton of snow? How is water crossing?
Also I heard that all camp sites along Tioga road are still closed, but does anyone know about the backpacking camp ? Can we just dig a hole and pitch a tent there? Thanks for any info!

Trails are going to be pretty snowy (or muddy, or water-y) for a little while longer.

I suspect that if you try to camp in the campground while it's closed, you'll be evicted from the grounds if not the park. There are staff at Tuolumne Meadows year round, but the camp won't open til the snow goes, prolly.

Stream/river crossings are going to be very, very cold, and dangerous where there's current and depth.
