Mono Pass Impassable?

Postby sarahbetht » Fri Jul 01, 2011 10:47 am

I'm trying to get out to Mono Pass next week and I was curious if anyone could tell me the trail conditions. I'm guessing snow, but how much and can it be crossed.

Thanks!

Hi Sarah

We went up Mono Canyon on July second from Lake Edison. The trail is clear up to about a mile past Laurel Creek--but then there is a large avalanche that pretty much left the trail obliterated. Snow level is at 10,000 feet right now, and the streams are roaring. Mono Creek itself is WAY too big too ford at the Laurel Creek junction.

I know that doesn't really answer your question if you are entering from the East (Rock Creek) side...but condition up that high are pretty wild right now.

Ice ax required!

I'm guessing Mono Pass in Yosemite... the one near Parker Pass... up Bloody Canyon...
Summit Lake, Sardine Lakes...

Mono Pass is very gentle... If coming from Mono Pass TH then it won't matter how much snow there is.
But there may be little by next week. It's melting fast...

You should go.
We were expecting full snow last year around July 4th and there was little to none all the way to Parker Pass.

Of course you're right, Bill.

Since we just got back from the OTHER Mono Pass, I forget which board I was on!

It's just an assumption... assuming they are dayhiking up to Mono Pass. ???

Heck, who knows, they may mean Mosquito Flat TH. Time will tell? :)
