Looking for suggestions for 1 or 2 night loop trails

Postby andre » Mon Jul 11, 2011 10:27 am

Any suggestions for a 1 or 2 night loop trail in the park? My girl friend and I will be out there the 2nd week of August and want to go on a short trip. I have hiked the JMT out of the valley ot Mt. Whitney but my girl friend has never been anywhere in Yosemite park. I know it is going to be impossible to get permits for many of the trail heads so we may have to hike in one of the less popular places in the park which is no problem. I was also thinking that it might be nice to be at higher elevation because of the daytime heat in the lower areas? I estimate hiking around 8miles a day on moderate to difficult trails would be the most we would want to do. Thank you for any help or suggestions you have to offer.

The obvious trips will be booked by now...unless you try to get a First Come First Served permit. For those, you could look at Young Lakes as a choice.

I like Polly Dome Lakes for this trip. You can add in a hike to May Lake, and not very many people do this trail, for some reason.

The other choice might be a cross country to Nelson Lake past Elizabeth Lake.

We have all of these hikes described on our website

Or just read a good mystery novel set in the Sierra; https://www.amazon.com/Danger-Falling-Rocks-Paul-Wagner/dp/0984884963
