Hello,
First time poster here and would love to get some feedback on an upcoming backpacking trip. We are a group of 4 guys that get together once a year to either packpack or mountaineer somewhere in the Sierras. For this trip, we were thinking we would backpack from Tuolumne Meadows (yes, we have the requisite permits already), using the Pacific Crest Trail and exit PCT at Seavey Pass to overnight at Peeler Lake to finally complete the trip at Twin Lakes (Mono Village Resort, south of Bridgeport). Since we only do this once a year, I would love your input to see what we might do to optimize our plan to make it an epic trip. The trip is planned for early August.
Here is our preliminary plan:
Tue - enter Tuolumne Meadows > 5.7mi > camp Glen Aulin
Wed - Glen Aulin > 11mi > Miller Lake
Thu - Miller Lake > 13mi > Benson Lake
Fri - Benson Lake > 10mi > Peeler Lake
Sat - Peeler Lake > 9mi > exit Twin Lakes campground (Mono Village Resort)
I have never backpacked this direction in Yosemite High Country and would love your feedback on the plan. Are there better places to stay? Are some of these legs a bit more difficult and should we lessen the distance for those parts. Any local G2 that we should be aware of?
We're all in our late 30's and early 40's, in good shape, and have quite a bit of experience backpacking in the mountains. Thanks a ton for your help in advance!
Matt
