Parker Pass/Koip Pass

Postby bbmq » Sun Jul 31, 2011 2:12 pm

I read a post a few weeks ago saying the Koip Pass switchbacks were covered with snow and that Alger Lakes were frozen over, does anybody have any updated info? I had to cancel my trip this past weekend frpm Mono Pass TH over Parker/Koip/Gem Passes to Red's Meadow but would love to re-schedule it for a week or two from now. Thanks.

I just completed this hike last week. No real snow issues with the possible exception of the Alger side of Koip. There was a broad snow field but it was not too steep and still solid late in the day.

Thanks for the feedback, thofern. does that mean that Alger Lakes aren't still frozen?

I was wondering if you give me a little bit of a trip report, like what type of mileage you did per day, where you camped. etc. I haven't done this hike before and was wondering if it's not too bad to camp just after Koip Pass, like how windy it is up there and are there sheltered sites. Or if camping at Alger Lakes then where is the best places to camp?

Thank you in advance.
