WW to Pate Valley; Water

Postby atomicmonkey » Thu Jul 26, 2012 1:25 pm

We are finally down to counting in hours until we start our trip on Monday!! We are doing the GCT trail starting at White Wolf. Obviously, I see that there will be plenty of water from Pate Valley all the way to TM. I see that the trail from White Wolf to Pate Valley stays close to a small creek most of the way. Does anyone know the current conditions of this possibly dry creek? Thanks!!

I haven't seen it this year myself, but i would expect it to be dry.

We just finished this hike last week! First, what a great hike. Second, there was one small creek flowing about five miles from White Wolf. Where the trail crosses it, there was plenty of cool, refreshing, crystal clear water!! I think it was either Morrison Ck or the one just east of it. The other was dry. We did the hike in 4 days. That gave us plenty of time to see the sights.
(Thanks for pointing out some of those sights near PV, Bill-e-g!!!) The trip down the canyon from WW to Pate was long and I was very glad we were going down it, though the trip up Muir Gorge was steep but breathtakingly beautiful!! When we arrived in Glen Aulin, it felt like we were almost home but every turn revealed another falls or rapid!! :D and since we parked the car near the stables next to Lambert Dome, we took the "short cut" to the stables. It was almost comical how much mule dung was on the trail!! Overall, I think this hike would be hard to beat as far as water and scenery. Our ten year old son carried his 18lb pack and had an epic time! His daily challenge was finding the best water slide to stop at for lunch!! I would also like to thank bill-e-g, AlmostThere and balzaccom for all the great advice in planning this trip!!
