Backpackers Parking

Postby crya » Tue Aug 21, 2012 9:26 am

Hi,
We're heading off on our trip to hike from Tuolumne to Yosemite in two weeks and just thought I'd check in for tips on backpacker's parking. I've not been in some time but I assume that somewhere close to the trailheads there is overnight parking? First question is whether there is abundant parking or is it difficult to find a spot to leave the car?
Our plan is to arrive in Yosemite Valley Saturday to 1. Park the Car, 2. Pull permit with Res, and 3. take the Return YARTS up to Tuolumne in the evening to camp at the Tuolumne backpacker's camp. That way, when our hike is done, we arrive at our car and can roll out.  This seems better than parking and hiking from Tuolumne, and then needing to catch the late 5 pm YARTS back to Tuolmne when the trip is done.

Thoughts?

Most or all trailheads have parking and I've never had a problem. If you can name a particular trailhead, I could tell you what I remember, if anything.

I always like to leave my car at the end of the trip, given a choice.

Great thanks. We'll be wandering down from Half Dome through LYV and out to civilization, so I guess that's Happy Isles. I think I read there's parking somewhere after Curry Village. Do you need a parking pass or anything to leave your car?

Yes, the Happy Isles trailhead parking a dirt parking lot behind (southeast of) Curry Village (on the way to Happy Isles).

No parking pass needed at Happy Isles trailhead parking (or any trailhead parkiing). Remove any food or food container from your car and put it in the bear locker.

My family and I are headed up to El Cap, Eagle Peak, Yosemite Creek then down via the falls trail from OBOFR. I have been to the NPS site and found no notes on parking for this trailhead. Is there a parking lot there? bear locker? Also will i need to hitch a ride back to fetch my car at the trailhead or will the shuttle bus go back out there? Also would you recommend overnight near Cascade or Ribbon Creek?
