When should I plan my trip?

Postby Reno Frank » Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:15 pm

I was in Yosemite for my first time 2 weeks ago to hike Half Dome. Now I am planning a return trip next spring/summer. I want to hike Upper Yosemite Falls, The Four Mile Hike, and the Panorama Trail. It's probably hard to predict the snow pack but does anyone have any advice on when to come? I could come from early May or into the summer. I want to see more water flowing. I'll be coming from Reno via 395 so Tioga Pass would be more convenient but I'm willing to go around to the west side.

If Yosemite is like this year, you could probably come in May. July is safer. June is probably OK. The snow is really variable and it's too early to tell.

The trail to Upper Yosemite Falls opens first (assuming you're starting from the Valley, near Camp 4). That's because the trail gets a lot of sun.

The heavily-shaded Four Mile trail probably will open last.
