June visit

Postby kevinpsmt » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:43 am

I will be attending a wedding in Placerville in mid-June, and am planning my trip to include a visit to Yosemite. I will only have two full days(and one half-day), and would love to get some local input on how to best spend my limited time. I live in Montana and am an avid hiker/backpacker, so I'm OK with long/strenuous hikes as long as they are rewarding. I'm planning on hiking sunrise to sunset both days. All day hikes or a combo of shorter hikes? I'm up for any suggestions. Would also appreciate input on the best campground(tent) to stay. Thanks! Kevin

Placerville is a couple of hours from Yosemite. I would just spend the day or more wandering the Valley itself---you can find a lot of hikes to take there on our website. Some of which will be quite isolated...and lovely.
Check our our website: http://www.backpackthesierra.com/
Or just read a good mystery novel set in the Sierra; https://www.amazon.com/Danger-Falling-Rocks-Paul-Wagner/dp/0984884963

What days of the week do you plan on going. If it was a Sunday/Monday I would recommend heading down to Glen Aulin to camp the first night, then head down river to LeConte Falls the next day, and hike out on the third half day.
Here is a link to a video I took two years ago - https://picasaweb.google.com/1183609704 ... 8228262402
If you back up into the album you can get an idea of the hike and what you will see.
Road opening an weather permitting we are doing this trip on June 10th this year

Also, if you're heading out through the West highway 120 entrance, you should do a quick stop at the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias. It's only about two miles of hiking, so you can swing by it really quick on the way out, and it's got some really amazing trees.
