Ostrander Lake

Postby CharlesB » Sun Feb 10, 2013 5:18 pm

Greetings,
I am quite the newby here so go easy on me...

I would like an easy 2 or 3 day backpack and I was looking at Ostrander Lake.
The NPS website gives the Wilderness permit info however I don't see Ostrander lake listed on any of the trail head information pages.

I am not sure how to fill out the permit reservation properly.

See, Told ya I was a newby !

You'll want to find either Bridalveil Creek trailhead (leaves from Bridalveil campground) or Lost Bear (signed on the road as Ostrander Lake).

Don't worry--you are not the first or the last person to have trouble with that one!

And Ostrander is a nice hike--although in Yosemite, nice backpacking hikes leave from just about every trailhead!

This is a nice hike, I have done it multiple times and taken quite a few people on it for their first time trip. Here is a very short trip report I did in Septemberhttp://www.yosemite.ca.us/forum/viewtopic/f=7&t=2233
There is a great hike out to the edge of Horizon Ridge. You follow the license plates setup for the skiers in the winter. They are getting a bit tougher to follow as a few of the trees they were on have fallen down.
