YNP Rooks itinerary

Postby Patsfans » Wed Feb 20, 2013 9:54 am

Here's the plan:
June 28 - Hotel
June 29 - In- Rancheria Falls
June 30 - Out of R.F. Overnight at back packers campground (Toulumne)
July 1 - In- Glen Aulin
July 2 - Stay Glen Aulin or out to back packers campground
July 3- Day hikes - Back packers campground
July 4 - In Big Oak Flat, overnight near Cascade Creek
July 5 - El Capitan, Eagle Peak, overnight near Yosemite Creek
July 6 - Out of Yosemite Falls Trail - Curry Village
July 7 - In Little Yosemite Vally
July 8 - Half Dome and out to hotel
July 9 - Sequoia - Flight home at 6:30

Are we crazy? We want to get as much in as we can in the short time we have. I am quite sure sleeping on the flight home will not be a problem.
Any and all comments are appreciated by this East coast family! Thank you in advance!

You may be out of luck. Hetch hetchy road is listed as being indefinitely closed. No way to know if it will open.

I think you are overly optimistic. Especially if Sequoia refers to the sequoia national park, which is a long, long drive from yosemite area.

Edited to add: by an employee's estimate it MIGHT be late June - at the earliest - to re-open the road. But it was a major landslip that took out part of the road.

I don't think I would do this itinerary unless the 11 year old involved is absolutely nuts about backpacking and can go and go. That is a bunch of ambitious elevation gain and loss for a kid.

Take a layover day in the middle of the trip somewhere. It also gives you flexibility for changing plans.

Thanks for the input. Is the NPS site the best place to get up to the date info on HH road? Do you have any suggestions for a day off? So far my possibilities are floating down the Merced, horseback riding, El Cap meadow or maybe some less strenuous hikes ie BV falls. I have read that there is no jumping off the swinging bridge but have also seen plenty of pics to dispute that. Oh yeah one more thing...How difficult will it be to get back to TM CG from the valley to fetch the car? IF we can change the permit trailhead from OBOFR.
Again we really do appreciate you taking the time to educate us on all things YNP!

I would take a day to visit Wawona, Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome, and Taft Point. And that would NOT be a day off. It's a lot to do in one day
