Half Dome permit trading

Postby Hank Mardukas » Wed Apr 10, 2013 11:48 am

First time poster. I know there's a half dome forum, but it looks like this one is way more active, and I'd really like to get an answer to this question.

I applied for the half dome cable lottery, with my first choice of August 10th, and I made a campsite reservation for that weekend. I was just notified that I did get a permit for the cables... for August 3rd :( . I'm wondering how in the heck does the park service expect anyone to have a matching campsite reservation and permit date, other than getting really lucky?? This seems like a huge oversight on the part of the park service - to hold the lottery after almost all of the campsite reservation windows. Is it possible to trade cable permits? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks so much.

The permits are not transferable.

Go camping, and hike to the top of one of the less traveled more scenic peaks in the park. You will have a great time.

If you are the Trip Leader or Alternate you have to be on the hike on the day you were given. You cannot change the date through recreation.com You can't sell them or give them away. Yosemite has a dozen ++ other neat hikes. Clouds Rest is the new HD - no permits!! Yosem Falls in very good. Go up the Mist Trail and cross over Nevada Fall to the Panorama Trail up the Glacier Point. Then go down 4-mile Trail to Curry. That will be 18 miles RT. It will wear you out.

I agree that the timing is poor. :(
