Fishing backcountry with scenery

Postby tennwalker » Mon May 06, 2013 1:04 pm

I'm heading back to yosemite in late summer. I am not a fisherman but everyone in my party is. I've talking them into yosemite instead of Yellowstone. Does anyone have any good locations of great fishing areas. I'm in it for the landscape so Ill be good anywhere there is water. I know there are fish all over but the higher in elevation you go the smaller they get. That is bad news for my cause. I would love to hit the ten lakes but ill go anywhere in the park. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

How far do you want to walk, and how many days? I spent an afternoon fishing at this lake...and caught about 50 brookies from 9-13 inches long.

But it's a two day hike from the trailhead. Illilouette Creek has a ton of fish...and even better is Ottoway Lake...but that is 15 miles in....

But if you just want to catch some fish, you might try Yosemite Creek where it crosses the Tioga Road...and hike down from there.

Thanks for the reply. In trips past I've seen groups going in on horseback to the farthest point and just slowly hiking back. If I did that my options really open up.

If that is what you are interest in doing, you should look at Emigrant Wilderness right next door to Yosemite. I think there are more options along those lines in that area...
