Mosquitoes at High Sierra camps in July 2013?

Postby luminos123 » Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:10 am

Hi there,

We are planning a family hike to do a three day loop (Vogelsang, Merced and Sunrise) on in mid July, around July 15th this summer, 2013. I know that typically early and mid July is a terrible time for mosquitoes. Since the snow pack this year is well below normal, and mosquitoes are attracted to damp conditions, what do folks think about the mosquitoes will be like in mid July? My sister is allergic to mosquito bites and many other insect bites as well. She has done fine when we go later in the summer, say in August. We have never gone in early or mid July because insect bites are a problem for her. But we took the mid-July reservations since there was no other loop available later in season.

Thanks for any thoughts or predictions!

My guess is that the moquitoes should have calmed down a bit by mid-July.

And I also think that the A's are going to win the World Series.

We will be doing a family hike from TM - GA - ML around the same time. We're hoping with the smaller snowfall it won't be too bad but not holding my breath :-( Hopefully we'll get some reports in closer to the time
