where does this "trailhead" go?>

Postby ctfshjohn » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:05 pm

last year while on 120 i saw a log up on 2 rocks , with a spot for 2-3 cars on the south side of the road.
it was roughly right before the road that cuts north to the parking for may lake, iirc.
i was guessing it goes out to watkins possibly?
i was going to get out and see where it went but i had food in the car.
i might get curious this year and drive out there one day for a hike.
oh BTW ill be there sept 9-12 and looking for some other people to hike with .

It connects with trails to Mt Watkins, Snow Creek, and North Dome...

thanks B.
is this the quickest way out to watkins / how long -what kind of terrain?
are the views rewarding once you are out on watkins compared to the hike duration?
seems like a straight shot through the woods?
is it ok to park there and/ or will the shuttle drop me off at an unmarked stop?

I dodn't think there is a bad trail in Yosemite---they all lead to something good.

Views from Mt/Watkins includes great shots of both CLouds' Rest and Half Dome, and a lot of Tenaya Canyon

And yes, particulary if you ask in advance, the shuttle will let you off at just about any trailhead in the park. They always tell you that you have to request it of the driver...but I've never heard anyone who was told that it couldn't be done.
