Trail Suggestions for Autumn

Postby thesandpeople » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:12 pm

I'm planning a trip to Yosemite for late October and am looking for some suggestions.

Firstly, I'm looking for a good hike, something in the range of 10-15 miles round trip. Preferably in the Valley. I've done the Mist Trail and Upper/Lower Falls, however those were both during the spring. I don't imagine those trails are ideal for the fall due to the lack of water. Any suggestions for trails which are particularly scenic in the Autumn?

Secondly, I have a reservation at Upper Pines campground. They say that the maximum number of people is 6. Does anybody know how strictly this is enforced?

Thanks in advance!

I'm actually also looking to do some biking and climbing. Any suggestions for good bike rental companies and biking trails? And any suggestions for good places to do bouldering?

Thank you all again!

We have a list of nice hikes in the valley on our website, including some that will really get you away from the crowds: Illilouette Falls, Ribbon Falls, etc.

Biking? You are only allowed to bike on paved roads and trails in the valley. There is a bike trail around most of the valley, and since I like to road bike, I just ride on the road==it's faster and better.

As for climbing---check with the wilderness center there. Just about every cliff face in Yosemite has some basic routes down low that are fun and not too tough.

Leave El Cap for the experts.

You won't have any issue getting an additional campsite if you need it.

If you are looking for hikes, there are maps at the wilderness office, and the ranger can tell you about each one. I always suggest Sentinel Dome - a great view with just a little effort. And the views from the four mile trail are really good.
