Easy hikes along 108?

Postby Recycling1991 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 4:57 pm

Well, I never made it up last week, but going up tomorrow or Sunday. Planning on driving through 108 (and returning on 120). I've never hiked along 108. Any good 2-4 mile relatively easy hikes that we can do off of 108? We have a 6 hour drive, so that's a big part of our day, but I thought we'd have enough time to do something scenic. A little bit of up and down is okay (similar to getting to the bridge at vernal falls), but nothing more strenuous. I'm considering devoting about two hours to the hike.

Also, hiking the Mono Pass Trail the next day. There are many descriptions of this trail, but feel free to add your two cents if you want. :-)

Sorry--we were up there hiking this weekend, and only just saw this.

IF that's the drive you are doing, then I would have recommended the PCT out of Sonora Pass, north to Sonora Peak, or south to the ridge towards Leavitt Peak. Both offer great views.

Or off Clark Fork Road, you can get up to Boulder Lake in about 3-4 miles..

Thanks for the response. We did end up trying out the PCT, for a short time, either direction. However, we were so out of breath (driving up from sea level that day) that decided best leave hiking for the next day. We were surprised how small a trail the PCT was. It must not be used that much, compared to some other Yosemite trails.

Enjoyed Mono Pass Trail and Parker Pass Trail the following day. Love this season since the mosquitoes are all dead. Yay!

It's a great season to hike, as long a the weather holds.

And you are right---the PCT at Sonora Pass doesn't get nearly the use of the JMT in Yosemite, for example.
