Public transportation to May Lake Trailhead

Postby Novice » Mon Mar 17, 2014 12:01 pm

I got a permit for a multi-day hike starting at May Lake Trailhead. I don't plan to use my car and have been researching public transportation to get to the May Lake Trailhead. So far, my plan is to get to Merced Amtrak Station and take YART to Curry Village to stay for the night. The next day (the same day as my entry date), I plan to take the Tuolumne Meadows Tours and Hikers Bus to May Lake Junction. From the junction, I plan to hike up to May Lake trailhead to start my trip. Is this feasible? Is it allowed? Are there any other public transportation options to get to May Lake? Thank you for your help!

It is legal and allowed. You have to ask the driver of the bus to let you out at May Lake trailhead road...and the driver is always given the prerogative to refuse....but I've never heard of a driver refusing a reasonable request.

It's a short hike from 120 to the trailhead. And a short hike to May Lake. And after that, you've got lots of options!

Don't overlook a climb to the top of Mt. Hoffman. One of the greatest views in the whole park.
