Best North Rim Trail

Postby nwb » Mon Mar 31, 2014 3:59 pm

Hi,

Looking for the best use of the North Rim trail for a 2 night 3 day hike in May. Would be hiking out on a thursday and want to be back to the valley floor on sat. I think the north rim tail hike from Old Big Oak Flat Road Trail to Tenaya Loop Trail can't be done in 3 days. Thanks for the help!!

This is a tough one as only a handful of people on this Forum have been on, or even know about the Old Trail. Seeing as how it is not maintained, and no clue what you might run into as far as obstacles go, you may be correct that it would be difficult at best to get to Tenaya in 3 days.
However you have a couple of bail out spots, if you get past the obstacles and get on the official trail and fall behind time wise. You can drop down the Yosemite Falls trail, or the Snow Creek trail, to get to the Valley floor.
If you were coming in at Wildcat Falls, I would say it is doable, based on a quick pace
