transportation to tuolumne

Postby kem.morehead » Thu May 29, 2014 2:37 pm

I'm leading a group of 12 on a backpacking trip from Tuolumne down to the Valley starting on June 18th. I didn't realize that the hikers shuttle doesn't start running until the 20th. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get my group to Tuolumne on the morning of the 18th to start our hike? Is there any private company that anyone knows about? Thanks for any help you can offer!

I asked the same question about a month ago and the answer I got back was:

"Nope. There are tour companies that might be willing to do that, but no private shuttle services that just do shuttling."

My solution is going to just use 2 cars for my group, but not sure that will work for your group due to the # of people. I still think that trying to find someone in the nearby towns like Groveland or Mariposa or even Modesto to shuttle you for a fee is possible. There's gotta be someone with a van willing to earn some $$ for 3 hrs work.

You might be able to get the YARTS from the valley floor to Mammoth Lakes. It stops at the Tuolumne store. The 120 route started on May 17th this year.

Cash in hand or tickets in advance.

Here's the update in case anyone else is looking for transportation. The website says the Hikers Shuttle starts June 20th and when I called, they confirmed that they Hikers Shuttle starts the 20th. The next day, I was talking to someone and they said that the shuttle was starting up on the 16th so I called again and low and behold, it's starting up on the 16th. The web site still says the 20th, but I have a reservation complete with a confirmation number and a withdrawal from my credit card for June 18th from the Valley to Tuolumne Meadows. The person I talked to didn't seem to know why it said the 20th. Who knows? I'm just happy I have the reservation for the 18th and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't change their minds!
