CR from Sunrise - any water?

Postby bwg999 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 10:13 pm

I'm planning on hiking to CR from Sunrise this Fri - am I likely to find filterable water on the way? (besides of course Tenaya outlet and detouring to Sunrise lakes).

Thanks in advance

It's always possible. We had some rain, but not nearly enough. I'm expecting creeks to be dry and am prepared to carry enough for 8-10 miles at a stretch, as usual.

I was in that area approximately July 10th. There was no flow coming down the creeks from Sunrise Lakes on the climb up from the TH at Tenaya Lake.

After the Lakes/HSC trail junction, there was water in two places prior to Cloud's Rest. There was (and will be) water in the tarn a mile or so south of the junction. Be prepared to treat or filter it.

There was some water flow in the stream shown on the USGS and Harrison topos about 0.6 mi south of the tarn. The quality was OK, though the color was a slightly greenish. Given how small the flow was 2 weeks ago, I wouldn't bank on that source being decent now.
