Red Peak Pass Conditions?

We are crossing Red Peak Pass in the middle of July and was wondering if the snow on the north side of the pass has melted?

Also, can anyone tell me about descending Merced Peak Fork instead of Triple Peak Fork? Only TPF is listed on my map but I have seen in reports that MPF does have a trail and it is about 2 miles shorter. Is it fairly easy to follow? Worst part looks like to be at the bottom just above the bridge.
