Hi, we plan to do a 5 day trip. On the 4th night we will camp in little Yosemite valley. On the 5th day we plan to hike Half Dome, desend and hike to Glacier point, hitch hike back down to our car at Bridalveil trail head and drive home the same day to Orange County. Is this doable or am I dreaming? Reasonable shape, not 23 any more. Comments please

Good luck. Just hiking to Half Dome and back from LYV will be an exercize let alone trying to hike to Glacier Point on the same day. How many people in your group? The reason I ask is that hitchiking to your car with more than one person plus gear may be next to impossible.

Thanks Mike, I am concerned about that last day. Might be too much. As far as hitch hiking to the car, only one person would go and that would be without gear. Once that person got to the car they would drive back for the rest of the group and the gear. Any estimate on the miles from LYV to the top, back down, then over to Glacier?

I did Glacier Point to Half Dome two years ago. Not having notes from that hike with me, these figures are best guesses from memory:

Little Yosemite Valley to the top of Half dome and back is about 7 miles. The Panorama trail junction (near top of Nevada Falls) is about 1.5 miles below Little Yosemite Valley. From there it’s about five miles to Glacier Point.

Thanks much for the info, really appreciate it. I may have to rethink that last day. 13 or so miles with elevation gain and loss, followed by a 5 hour drive home makes for a long day. (unless she drives and I sleep)

Especially with this being the last day, it is much too far and strenuous. Half Dome alone will take a good long time. Can I suggest maybe hanging one night in Yosemite Valley after Half Dome... then continuing the next morning? Maybe enjoy an evening in the village? A pizza and some cold beer came in handy for us after Half Dome, that's for sure.

Just a thought.
