Permit/Lottery question

I'm taking my kids (5,7,10,13) back up to May Lake. We had a great time with walkup permits last summer for both May Lake and Ten Lakes (though we didn't make it all the way up). I've never done the 6-month advanced permits through the lottery. We nailed 6 spots at May Lake for Father's day weekend but it was already passed the 168 days so there wasn't a lottery.

Can I sign up for the lottery anytime before 168 days or do I have sign up right at 168 days? We're thinking some time in August or September.

You have to submit your permit request 169 days exactly before the start date.

After that date, you can still get any unused permits if any are left, but for the lottery you have to submit 169 days before (or until 7:30am PST 168 days in advance)

This page has the dates:

"Wilderness permit reservations are processed by lottery 168 days in advance of the start date of your hike. You may submit your reservation application online one day prior (169 days) to the lottery date, as specified in the chart below. The deadline for all lottery entries is at 7:30 am Pacific time, 168 days in advance."
